Cyprus Museum of Natural History

Scientific and Cultural Institution of Public Benefit

Within the framework of its long and versatile, social and cultural contributions, Photos Photiades Group of Companies and Cyprus Carlsberg have established, in 1994, the «Photos Photiades» Public Benefit, Scientific and cultural Foundation. 

Part of its activities was the establishment of the Cyprus Museum of Natural History in 1996; this was the first of a series of beneficial projects offered to the public. The Cyprus Museum of Natural History is located within the beautiful gardens of the Cyprus Carlsberg Brewery, on the outskirts of Nicosia.

The Museum was inaugurated by the former President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Glafkos Clerides, on the 29th of May in 1996.

In the meantime the Foundation continues the Group's tradition of participating and generously contributing to various social activities. Photos Photiades Group's public gestures include numerous scholarships, grants to charity, culture, education, athletics and other fields. It also contributes to the expansion of the green by sponsoring annual competitions, encouraging the planting of trees and protecting the environment.  For the protection of the environment the Photos Photiades Group of Companies has been officially prized by the State, with the «Protection of the Environment Award».

Other cultural contributions of the Foundation:

-  Restoration of the Hatzigeorgakis Cornesios Mansion in Old Nicosia

-  Monument erection in memory of our National Singer Sofia Vembo, unique in the world

-  Establishment of the annual awards “Marios Tokas” and “Kostas Montis”. The foundation coordinates with the ministry of Education and Culture and the Greek-Cypriot literalists association for the organisation of these contests were the successful participants are awarded with a special prize.    

The foundation also sponsored a number of busts in the name of the following significant Cyprus’s Personalities: 

-  Pavlos Xioutas, Cypriot author

-  Aliki Vougiouklaki, Greece’s National Cinema Star

-  Nearchos Clerides a great teacher, historian and writer from the village of Agros

- Marios Tokas, Cypriot music composer

- Kostas Montis, Cypriot poet

- Vasilis Michaelides, Cypriot poet

- Demetris Lipertis, Cypriot poet

- Pavlos Liasides, Cypriot poet

- Sponsors social and cultural events

Furthermore, the Foundation contributes to the publishing of various books of famous authors.

- The Foundation and its founders take initiatives for the promotion of the national economy and the cause of Cyprus internationally, as well as initiatives towards the promotion of Cyprus accession in the European Union as a solution of its political problem.

The above are some activities that the «Photos Photiades Foundation» has been called upon to accomplish by continuing the tradition in the field inherited from the Photos Photiades Group of Companies.
